Ageo Central General Hospital, Saitama, introduces the latest surgical robot "da Vinci SP Surgical System" for the first time in the Kanto area in July.

Ageo Central General Hospital (Director: Eikichi Tokunaga) introduced the latest model of surgical robot, da Vinci SP Surgical System (hereinafter referred to as "da Vinci SP"), for the first time in the Kanto area in July 2023.

Together with the two existing da Vinci Xi Surgical Systems, a total of three surgical robots will be in operation.

What is da Vinci SP?

da Vinci SP is the latest model(*1) of the surgical support robot offered by Intuitive Surgical, LLC. The major difference from conventional surgical robots is its single-port (single-port) system that operates a camera and multiple instruments (forceps) that bend from a single arm. By reducing the number of incisions (surgical wounds) required by conventional multi-port systems to one, minimally invasive (less physical burden and pain) and more cosmetically pleasing (scars, etc.) surgery can be performed, while maintaining the advantages of conventional robot-assisted surgery.

Da Vinci SP surgery at Ageo Central General Hospital

As of July 2023, the number of facilities with da Vinci SP is limited, and we are the fourth hospital in Japan and the first in the Kanto region to introduce it.

First, we will begin performing surgeries in the field of urology (prostate cancer, female pelvic organ prolapse), which requires precise operations in the narrow space of the pelvis, by taking advantage of the features of the da Vinci SP.

We have several doctors certified by the Japanese Society of Urological Endoscopy and Robotics as urogynecology robot-assisted surgery proctors (surgical supervisors). These physicians are skilled in robot-assisted surgery and are dedicated to providing safe, high-quality robotic surgery.

We are planning to further expand our robotic surgery services to the fields of head and neck surgery (surgery for mid-pharyngeal and hypopharyngeal cancer) and gynecology (hysterectomy).

We will continue to make every effort to provide "safer and higher quality medical care" to everyone in the community.
