Development Background

There are cool mushroom playing cards made in Finland, Poland, and other countries, but none made in Japan. Then, the members of Kanto Mushroom Club decided to join forces and create original playing cards! This is why we started development in the spring of 2023.

Kanto Mushroom Club members brought their own photos of mushrooms, and some of them were taken by the staff of the Yokohama Mushroom Festival Executive Committee, who also cooperated with us in taking photos of mushrooms.

The questions were: "Which mushroom should be placed on which card (number)?

Whose photo should be used for this mushroom?

The discussion was heated at times, but we solved the problems one by one, and "Seasonal Mushroom Playing Cards" was completed in the fall of 2023. The Seasonal Mushroom Playing Cards will be sold at the Yokohama Mushroom Festival 2023.

■Product Features

52 cards + 2 jokers, all with a different mushroom photo on the surface

All 54 cards feature photos of mushrooms taken by the staff of the Kanto Mushroom Association and the Yokohama Mushroom Festival Executive Committee. There are no photos of the same mushrooms, all are different species.

*It can also be used as a miniature mushroom book.

The original mushroom playing cards of the Kanto Mushroom Association not only include the photos, but also the name of the mushroom, description, description of food poisoning, and the rarity of the mushroom on a 5-point scale. Therefore, they can also be used as "mini mushroom picture books.

*Seasonal Mushrooms are grouped by four different suits.

As the name "Seasonal Mushroom Playing Cards" implies, each of the four suits is a season, and the mushrooms found in each season are selected and listed.

Club : Spring

Diamond : Summer

Hearts : Autumn

Spades : Winter

Some of the numbers also have a meaning, such as 1 (ace): a mushroom that represents the season; 12 (queen): a mushroom associated with queens and elderly women; 13 (king): a mushroom associated with kings and elderly men; and so on, and we have selected mushrooms that match these meanings.

Kanto Mushroom Club's original mushroom playing cards, "Seasonal Mushroom Playing Cards," will be available only at the Yokohama Mushroom Festival 2023 in limited quantities of 200 copies (100 copies on October 21 and 100 copies on October 22). Due to the limited quantities, each person is limited to two copies per person. We do not currently plan to sell them anywhere else, and we do not support mail order.
