Lawson, Inc. (Headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; President and Representative Director: Sadanobu Takemasu; hereinafter "Lawson") is offering "MACHI cafe+," a special café service in which each cup is made to order at 20 stores in the Kanto area (as of September 2023). MACHI Cafe+ is a special café service. The business was launched in response to a request from store crews (part-timers and workers) who wanted to "talk with customers through hand-delivery," and is actively managed by absorbing the opinions of each store. In recipe development, we solicited ideas for new menu items and received a large number of ideas. As the first products conceived by the crew, "Anno sweet potato latte (hot)" featuring the sweet aroma of Anno sweet potatoes and "Anno sweet potato soy smoothie (iced)" will be released on September 19, 2023 (Tuesday). The company plans to release more crew-designed products in the future.

Description: A smoothie based on a banana and soymilk (soy milk) smoothie with Anno sweet potato sauce added to provide a rich, gently sweet taste. It is served with Anno sweet potato chips for a textural accent.

Whipped topping is available for an additional 50 yen, and the whipped topping is finished with chocolate sauce.

The "MACHI cafe+" is being introduced at stores that have raised their hands and said, "I want to do it! The crews at each store take pride in their work and enjoy it. I was very impressed to see that there are so many people who are willing to work positively on the new menu.

This time, out of the many ideas we received, we commercialized a drink flavored with "Anno sweet potato," which is perfect for the season. I thought that customers would be even more pleased if I garnished it with Anno sweet potato chips, so I added the Anno sweet potato chip topping myself.

Working together with the crew, I have completed a gentle and relaxing drink that allows you to enjoy the unique flavor of the season. I hope many people will enjoy it.

And since we have many more ideas from the crew, we plan to commercialize them one after another in the future. Please look forward to them!

What is the special LAWSON café service "MACHI cafe+"?

MACHI cafe+ is a café service that uses the store's kitchen space to serve smoothies made with fresh bananas and coffee made on the spot from specially ground beans. The company plans to open 500 cafes by 2025.

We have established standards for the selection of stores to be introduced, with the condition that they have "fantasista"(*), who are internally certified according to the knowledge and skills of store crew members. The "MACHI Cafe+," which carefully prepares and delivers each drink after receiving an order at the cash register in the in-store kitchen, is a unique LAWSON in-store kitchen and Fantasista system, which stimulates communication with customers and increases the job satisfaction and motivation of store crew members. The "MACHI cafe+" is a unique LAWSON product.

Since 2012, LAWSON has established the "Fantasista System," which recognizes staff with excellent coffee-related knowledge and customer service skills to improve customer service and store operations. Currently, more than 20,000 crew members have been certified in four different fields, including "customer service" and "in-store kitchen" as well as "MACHI cafe.
