Due to the revision of the Road Traffic Law in April 2022, the current requirement to "visually or otherwise check the condition of the driver before and after driving" and the postponed "obligation to check for the presence of alcohol by utilizing an alcohol detector" will come into effect on December 1 of this year. It is estimated that approximately 350,000 businesses and 8.08 million drivers under their control throughout Japan will be subject to this requirement (National Police Agency summary, March 2022), and many companies are under pressure to comply with the new mandate.
