A New Kind of Classical Concert to be Enjoyed with projection mapping. Picture Book Concert "A Boy's Magic Horn" to be held in Kyoto City

Otone Kobo LLC, a concert planning company, will hold a picture book-style performance of "A Boy's Magic Horn (Des Knaben Wunderhorn)" on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the Aoyama Ongaku Kinenkan Baroquezaal in Kyoto City.

A crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for the performance is underway until Friday, December 15, 2023.

Picture Book Concert "A Boy's Magic Horn"

The hall will be transformed into a picture book by projection mapping! Sixteen songs by Gustav Mahler, based on verses from "The Boy's Magic Horn," a collection of folk songs known as Germany's Mother Goose, were selected to create the story of "Men, Women, and Animals in a Place Long Ago. This unique classical concert, which unfolds like a picture book, will be held in Kyoto City.

"A Boy's Magic Horn" is a collection of folk songs by anonymous German people, depicting the activities of humans and nature: life, love, animals, nature, death, war, and God.

Classical music has a reputation for being uptight and difficult, but who would think that "classical songs composed by Mahler, famous for his large orchestral works," would deal with such plain content? Furthermore, the lyrics are in German. So, we decided to make it into a picture book that can be understood at a glance, like a fairy tale.

We hope that both "unfamiliars" and "experts" of classical music will enjoy Mahler's music together with the beautiful world of the picture book projected on a large screen using projection mapping.
