Immersive Edo Experience in Odaiba and Sumida River! Experience the Edo period through an immersive experience utilizing AR and VR!

ASATEC Corporation (Location: Minato-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Keita Asahi) has planned and produced "Immersive Oedo River Fun" developed by the Tokyo Yakatabune Tokyo Cooperative Association, and released the application on the Apple Store and Google Store.

The application is currently being operated by six companies until March 2024, and will be available on all Sumida River yakatabune from April 2024.

Immersive Oedo River Fun offers six immersive experiences aboard a yakatabune on the Sumida River. The program is available in English so that overseas visitors can experience the culture and history of the Edo period on the Sumida River.

■Details of Immersive Experience

Immersive Experience (1) Houseboat Ride

The first immersive experience is boarding a houseboat on the Sumida River, which has been passed down since the Edo period. Houseboats on the Sumida River thrived during the Edo period. People enjoyed fireworks and cherry blossom viewing while having drinks and meals then, just as they do now. Enjoy an experience that has remained unchanged since the Edo period.

Immersive Experience (2) Edo Kids Sightseeing Guide

While the yakatabune is moving, you can enjoy the Edo period speaking style of "sightseeing guide" by Edo kids and learn about the sightseeing spots. When the boat arrives at the location to be guided, the location information of the boat is acquired by GPS, and the voice guidance is automatically played.

Immersive Experience (3) Edo Change

Edo Change is an AR experience that allows users to transform into historical figures, ninjas, kabuki actors, and samurai who were active during the Edo period. You can learn about the people who were active in the Edo period while becoming a historical figure.

Immersive Experience (4) Edo Time Slip

The Edo Time Slip is an immersive experience that takes you back in time to the Sumida River in the Edo period, where you can enjoy fireworks and hanami (cherry blossom viewing) along with approximately 200 3DCG reconstructed yakatabune (houseboats), which were enjoyed in those days. There are three hidden "hearts" in the scenery. Find them all and you may find love.

Immersive Experience (5) Oedo Show

The Oedo Show is an immersive video production that uses the entire 360-degree sky of Odaiba to introduce visitors to the history and culture of the Edo period. The highlight of the show is that ukiyoe paintings by ukiyoe artists active in the Edo period move across the entire sky of Odaiba, and a 3DCG reconstruction of a black ship and Edo Castle appear in the Odaiba space as they did in those days. Please enjoy the powerful sound and 360-degree spatial images.

Immersive Experience(6) AirMappingShow EDO

AirMappingShow EDO is a beautiful spatial performance work with sound and light reminiscent of the Edo period that is shown in the Odaiba space at night. Since the space is utilized, visitors can not only see 2D images, but also enjoy 3D images with depth and a sense of distance from the audience.

About Yakatabune Tokyo Cooperative Association

The Tokyo Yakatabune Tokyo Cooperative was formed in 1991 by a group of yakatabune operators along the Sumida River, and is the only association of yakatabune operators that has been approved by the Kanto District Transport Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
