Drone Programming and Piloting Skills Competition for Children The "Drokatsu National Competition" will be held on March 17 at Abeno Harukas!

The Drokatsu Executive Committee Office, chaired by Koei Yoshida, president of HDL LLC (headquartered in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture), is pleased to announce that the "Drokatsu National Competition," a drone competition for children, will be held at Abeno Harukas on March 17, 2024.

The Drokatsu National Competition will bring together a total of 10 teams of elementary school students and open teams under 20 years of age that have won fierce competition in the Osaka, Tokyo, and Kobe competitions held in November and December 2023.

Drokatsu

Drokatsu is an educational drone programming and piloting skills competition.

Until now, there have been no large-scale drone piloting or drone programming competitions for students in Japan. In addition to this situation, there has been a growing momentum to raise the level of drone skills in Japan.

The purpose of this competition is to promote programming education using the CoDrone EDU learning drone and to provide drone education that will lead to the next generation.

In participating in the competition, participants will hone their drone piloting and programming skills while experiencing the fun of competition through games against other teams.

The competition is structured to require practical skills in order to enhance drone-related skills for future careers.

Competition Details

There are two types of competitions held at Dorokatsu: the "Piloting Skill Contest" and the "Autopilot Skill Contest. Each will be a competition of drone piloting skills and drone programming skills. Rules and conditions for participation are as follows.

Autopilot Skill Contest

Two teams will be divided into two and compete in piloting skills and strategy by flying a designated course.

Scores are awarded based on passing through arch gates, obtaining bonus balls, and landing accuracy, with the winning team scoring higher than the opposing team. The duration of the competition is 2 minutes.

Autopilot Skill Contest

Compete for a score by autonomously operating the drone for 60 seconds to pass through the arch gate, remove the ball from the starting line, and land. All drone commands are pre-programmed and cannot be piloted.

Eligibility

Elementary school division: Ages 6-12

Open Division: Ages 12-20

Team composition

2 or more people

If all members are elementary school students, the team will be classified in the elementary school division; however, if even one member is an elementary school graduate, the team will be classified in the open division.
