In a survey we conducted last September of women working as regular employees and contract employees (directly employed), we analyzed the career continuity attitudes of 300 women who are young or have not yet raised children, and found that more than 40% of them (*) answered "I think I will leave my job because of marriage/pregnancy/child care" in the future. The results show that more than 40% of the respondents (*) answered that they "will probably leave for marriage/pregnancy/child care.

(*Including those who answered "don't know if I will continue")

More than 40% of the respondents answered that they "think I will leave for some reason in the future.

The most common reasons given for thinking they would leave were "lack of confidence in balancing work and child rearing," "working weeknights, Sundays, and holidays" (selected mostly in the service/medical and welfare industries), and "prioritizing child rearing while the children are young. This suggests that there is more to career continuity than personal values, and that there is an environment in which people are forced to give up, or feel compelled to do so.

Currently, 50% of people in Japan think they can continue working after a life event. What can we do to make Japan a society where people can make a positive choice to continue working after a life event, rather than just giving up because they have no choice?

In this webinar, based on the voices of 600 working women (300 women working while raising children and 300 working women before child rearing), we will discuss what society, companies, and the next generation of women can and need to do to create an environment where the next generation of women can have hope for their work and life, and what we, as the participants, can and need to do. We will find suggestions from a new perspective that overturns stereotypes.
