Maizuru City is pleased to announce that "Maizuru Curry Festa," a food event where visitors can enjoy the history of curry, will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at Maizuru Akarenga Park, a landmark of the city and a Japanese Heritage site. The event is intended to increase tourism consumption in Maizuru Red Brick Park as a food event during spring break, focusing on curry, which is an important tourism content of Maizuru.

From the "Navy Curry" listed in the "Reference Book of Naval Kappo-jutsu" published in 1908, to the "Maritime Self-Defense Force Curry" still eaten by the Maritime Self-Defense Force on Fridays, to the "town curry" born and raised in Maizuru, all gather at Maizuru Akarenga Park for this major spring break event. In addition to curry, there will be a large gathering of about 30 stores offering menus related to the Navy, as well as sweets and café stalls.
This will be the second time the event has been held, following last year's event on March 26, 2023.
＜What is Maritime Self-Defense Force Curry?
The Maritime Self-Defense Force has five security districts: Ominato, Yokosuka, Maizuru, Kure, and Sasebo. Maizuru City, where the Maizuru District Unit is based, has been implementing the "Friday is Curry Day" project since 2011. With the aim of revitalizing the local community through curry, restaurants in the city have been selling curry that reproduces the original curry recipes of Maritime Self-Defense Force vessels, facilities, and units. This time, those restaurants will open their stores.
<What is Maizuru Akarenga Park, where the event will be held?
Maizuru Akarenga Park, where this event will be held, is a symbolic area of Maizuru City lined with red brick warehouses, historical buildings associated with the Navy, and is conveniently located in the center of Maizuru City. Maizuru Akarenga Park aims to be "a gathering place for the attractions of Maizuru" and "a base for communicating the attractions of Maizuru," and will be a large-scale event using the entire premises of Maizuru Akarenga Park.
