Background of Project Launch

<The Noto Peninsula Earthquake that occurred on January 1, 2024

We are supporting a Shingon temple and local residents affected by the disaster in Noto, Ishikawa Prefecture, which has a long history and deep connections with the Noto Peninsula.

We will further improve lifelines that are still in the process of being restored.

<The Shinnoin visited the disaster-stricken area.>.

When we visited 38 temples after the earthquake, we learned that temples that are the stronghold of local residents are receiving various inquiries and requests, and this is the situation that Koyasan Bekkaku Honzan Shinnoin is providing support.

■Details of Support

*Lifeline

In early February, a water well was excavated and a purification system was installed at Tennoji Temple of the Koyasan Shingon sect, which is being used by local residents for daily water, bathing, laundry, etc.

*Support for temples that have been completely or partially destroyed

We are also conducting surveys and arranging for equipment to be installed at Iwakura-ji Temple and Saikoji Temple of the Koyasan Shingon sect in order to utilize well water and install purification equipment.

Construction at Saikoji is scheduled to begin on March 17, and at Iwakuraji in April.

*There are 38 Koyasan Shingon temples in Noto.

More than 10 temples have completely collapsed, and about 28 others have partially collapsed.

The scope of reconstruction is extensive and in a state of limbo, but we plan to expand our support based on the requests of local residents.
