(Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; President: Tadashi Tokieda), now in its 83rd year of publication, will launch a crowdfunding campaign on April 10, 2024 at 10:00 to revitalize its monthly magazine "Record Geijutsu", which ceased publication with the July 2023 issue, as an online media with renewed content.

■From "Record Geijutsu" to "Record Geijutsu ONLINE

Record Geijutsu" had been highly regarded as an unparalleled medium covering information on classical music recording and recording media, but due to major changes in the circumstances surrounding the magazine, it ceased publication. Since then, we have received many requests to continue the publication, and Ongaku no Tomo has been searching for a way to pass on to the next generation the assets that Record Geijutsu has cultivated over the past 70-plus years.

The answer we arrived at was to revamp the "Monthly Review of New Releases," the core of Record-Geijutsu, and reborn it as "Record-Geijutsu ONLINE," a portal site for recorded and archived classical music media for a wide range of audiences, from beginners to core listeners.

Record-Geijutsu ONLINE" is a web magazine that requires a paid membership, but it will also offer a full range of free articles and content that can be enjoyed by a wide range of readers. It will cover a wide range of diversified classical music media, and will focus on providing readers with reliable information that only Ongaku-no-tomo-sha can deliver.

Record-Geijutsu" has been supported by many fans for more than 70 years since its first issue.

The main focus will be on reviews of new releases, with the monthly review of new releases as the core, and gradually expand the content to include features, serials, etc. Free articles, which are essential for ONLINE media, will also be expanded to attract beginners and potential readers.

The core of "Record-Geijutsu ONLINE" is a review of classical music recordings and recorded performances. 100 CDs/records/streaming, domestic/overseas recordings are selected by the editorial department in principle, and 20 authors by genre provide "recommendations" and "semi-recommendations". The editorial staff, consisting of about 20 writers, will review them based on three criteria: "recommended," "semi-recommended," and "unrecommended" (this is not a double review). The list of recommended CDs will be published free of charge as "Recogei Recommended CDs of the Month".

From the rich archives accumulated by "Record-Geijutsu" (Recorded Arts), a monthly magazine published for more than 70 years since its first issue, we will discover and republish articles that are fresh and new even when read today. We also plan to collect requests from readers through questionnaires.

We will start a series of articles with an awareness of the "immediacy to the times" that is required of ONLINE media. We plan to update the content flexibly, taking into account the results of reader surveys.

As the means of enjoying classical music performances and recordings diversify from physical media such as CDs to Internet distribution, there is an increasing need for a "guidepost" to help people find the "masterpieces" that will change their lives from among the vast number of choices. Through "Record-Geijutsu ONLINE," we hope to create a "road map" for many music lovers.
