Breast Cancer Awareness Drawing Contest for ages 4 to high school students! Association for the Promotion of Breast Cancer Prevention and Medicine calls for entries starting July 1.

The Association for the Promotion of Breast Cancer Prevention and Medical Care (located in Naka-ku, Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture; Representative Directors: Aki Nozawa and Hiromi Maruyama), a general incorporated association promoting breast cancer awareness, will hold the 5th "Let's Go for Breast Cancer Screening Drawing Contest" for high school students from 4 years old.

As a part of easy-to-work-on cancer education, this contest aims to raise breast cancer awareness and spread the word to the parents' generation, and will call for entries from all over Japan starting July 1, 2024.

Background

One in nine women in Japan suffers from breast cancer. Breast cancer can occur at any age, but in recent years, the number of cases has been increasing rapidly among women in their late 30s and 40s, who are particularly busy with work, housework, and child rearing.

Breast cancer is a cancer that has a high 10-year survival rate because early detection offers a high chance of cure and a wide range of treatment options. However, the low awareness of "breast cancer" and "breast awareness" and the lack of understanding of the significance of early detection through medical examinations are challenges.

■Details of Development

We aim to achieve three results through the painting contest project.

(1) Encourage women to undergo breast cancer screening

Through the messages from the children's paintings, the distribution of educational materials from the association, and recreational activities on the day of the event, we will deepen knowledge and understanding of breast cancer screening and provide an opportunity to undergo breast cancer screening.

(2) Promotion of cancer education as stipulated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology

To promote children's knowledge and interest in cancer. In addition, the program aims to foster a sense of self-affirmation through the experience of contributing to society in that their paintings may save someone's life.

(3) Ripple Effect on Society

Companies will be encouraged to review their internal health management systems, local governments will be encouraged to increase the breast cancer screening rate, and individuals will be encouraged to reflect on their lifestyles, thereby revitalizing the community as a whole.
