How did you get into the Chinese market and what are your current initiatives in China?

Around 2018, Chinese services such as Alibaba Cloud started to enter the Japanese market, and when we felt the momentum of Chinese IT services, BEYOND also started to consider entering the Chinese market.

The first thing we did in preparation for entering the Chinese market was to visit various regions in China. We continued our research by interviewing and meeting with local Chinese companies and similar Japanese companies in China, and at the same time, we gradually studied how to establish a local subsidiary in China and how to prepare for the establishment of a local subsidiary.

What are the differences between business in Japan and China?

In Japan, when you meet a client for the first time, you exchange business cards, and then go to greet the client and exchange information, and if necessary, make a face-to-face connection.

In China, however, there is a strong tendency toward a culture of introductions, such as buying from or doing business with a company you know, and this difference in business practices makes it difficult. Also, because IT services and applications are becoming more and more widespread, most things can be completed using WeChat and its mini-programs, which I feel is very advanced and is a big difference from Japan.
