It is said that the oshibori originated in the Edo period (1603-1867), when wet hand towels were wrung out and handed to travelers in inns. The oshibori was used to wipe away dirt and grime during a journey and to entertain once-in-a-lifetime encounters, and has been passed down as a tool for hygiene and hospitality, becoming a uniquely Japanese "oshibori culture". As the times continue to change, we have set forth a vision of "reinventing the oshibori," including the pursuit of the optimum temperature for oshibori, healing scents, and antiviral and antibacterial functions, and we will continue to do so into the future.
