Daito City, Osaka Prefecture, to Use "Manhole Covers" for Advertising Providing revenue to the city while entertaining the viewer
~ Manholes that can be quizzed at five locations in the city on July 29 ~.
大東市
Daito City, Osaka Prefecture, started a manhole cover advertising business using existing manhole covers in fiscal 2024. Manhole cover advertising is an initiative to place advertisements by private companies and other organizations on manhole covers to generate advertising revenue.
Background of the Project
Sewerage business management is becoming increasingly difficult due to a decrease in usage fee revenues caused by a rapidly declining population and an increase in demand for renewal of aging facilities. The manhole cover advertising business is an initiative to secure new financial resources in such a business environment, and the advertising revenue generated will be used to cover sewer maintenance and management costs.
About the manhole cover advertisements installed
The manhole cover advertisements were installed on July 29, 2024. The advertisements are placed in four locations around JR Sumimichi Station and one location on the west side of JR Nozaki Station, where there is a lot of pedestrian traffic, and will be posted for three years in principle.
By scanning the 2D code on the ads, visitors can enjoy quizzes and other activities related to sewage systems. We hope that the design of the advertisements will provide entertainment to those who view the manholes, while at the same time generating revenue for the city from advertising fees. We also intend to consider expanding the installation area in the future.
