Kobumasa Corporation (Location: Sakai City, Osaka; President: Shingo Matsumoto) has won the Gold Award in the 3rd Hokkaido Souvenir Grand Prix North Wave Selection 2024-2025 for its "Tomaranai Furikake" (black pepper), manufactured and sold at its factory in Hakodate, Hokkaido.
What is Hokkaido Souvenir Grand Prix?
The Hokkaido Souvenir Grand Prix is organized by FM NORTH WAVE, a radio station in Hokkaido, and aims to boost the souvenir industry, an important element for tourism in Hokkaido. In addition to professionals in the souvenir and tourism industries, students from Keisen Academy majoring in tourism participate in this Grand Prix as special selection committee members, and the entries are rigorously judged in terms of sight, name, touch, transport, and intuition.
■The spicy flavor is addictive and goes well with any dish, including meat and fish dishes!
Matsumoto Corporation, which operates "Kobu Masa", has a factory in Hakodate, Hokkaido, and has been providing high-quality processed kelp products made from Hokkaido kelp since its establishment. More than 90% of Japan's natural kelp is harvested in Hokkaido, and there are many different types of kelp in each region. While our headquarters is located in Osaka, we have a factory in Hakodate, Hokkaido, which enables us to manufacture fresh and high quality products. In particular, our kelp tsukudani, salted kelp, and grated yam kelp are highly valued by many customers for their rich flavors and high quality products.
The Gold Award-winning "Tomaranai Furikake Black Pepper" has been used as a versatile furikake that can be used in a variety of dishes since its launch, both for home use and as a small gift.
The "Tomaranai Furikake" series has already been sold in three varieties: Ume (Japanese apricot), Wasabi (horseradish), and Shiso (shiso), which won the Gold Award at the 2nd Hokkaido Souvenir Grand Prix. The newly released "Tomaranai Furikake Kurokosho" is a product made of Hokkaido yam kelp and salted kelp with the added flavor of bonito and the refreshing spiciness of black pepper as an accent. Once you try it, you will be addicted to its rich flavor.
The concept behind the development of this product was to create a spice that can easily be sprinkled on food to change its flavor. The unique "UMAMI" of "Tororo Kombu (kelp with no vinegar) using only kelp from Hokkaido" and "Salted Kombu (kelp with salt) from Hokkaido" are blended with aromatic black pepper and spicy black pepper in a perfect balance. The spiciness is addictive. It can be served as it is on meat and fish dishes, or as a tasty side dish with cheese, salads, pasta, and of course, alcohol.
We would like to take this award as an opportunity to make more people aware of Kobumasa's "Tomaranai Furikake/Kurokosho" and to spread the appeal of Hokkaido kelp. Through our products, we will continue to promote Hokkaido's rich nature and food culture to the rest of Japan and the world.
