Disaster Prevention Awareness Growing in the Near Future

September 1 is Disaster Prevention Day. After the Fire and Disaster Management Agency announced the Nankai Trough earthquake contingency information in August, more and more people are reviewing their preparedness. One of the most frequently damaged or lost items during evacuation, and one of the most important items for the elderly to be prepared for, is dentures. The Great East Japan Earthquake also damaged family dentures, and although emergency support teams were on hand to help, it took several months before new dentures could be made available. A mobile clinic vehicle, the "Denture Bank Bus," will be set up in the parking lot of the Tsuruha Drug Hanakawa Minami Store in Ishikari City for one day only. At the consultation, we will tell you how to take care of your dentures when there is no water and provide free data storage to receive new dentures in a few days in case of emergency. We can also measure the chewing strength of your dentures and discuss your concerns and check their current condition.

In February 2023, we launched the "Denture Bank," a free denture data storage service in partnership with dental clinics nationwide. The "Denture Bank Bus," a mobile clinic vehicle that will be in operation for the first time, was converted from a used microbus and can provide simple medical services, clean dentures, and store denture data using a 3D scanner on the spot. In the event of a disaster, a 3D printer can be loaded and new dentures can be manufactured on-site based on the data stored in the Denture Bank and delivered immediately.

The main purpose of the Denture Bank bus is to provide support in disaster areas and to travel to areas without dentists. The bus is equipped with solar panels and storage batteries to generate electricity so that it can be rented out and used as a base for dental care teams in the event of a disaster. We have also been preparing since 2023 to provide on-site medical services to dentist-less areas where the population of dentists and users is aging.

We want to expand the circle of disaster preparedness.

Although people seem to be more aware of the importance of disaster preparedness than in the past, this awareness tends to fade as time goes by. We believe it is important to make people aware of the importance of being prepared on a daily basis. The Denture Bank, a nationwide free denture data storage service, has been launched about a year and a half ago, and 20 dental clinics nationwide have joined the program. We will proceed to expand this Denture Bank bus initiative as well.
