Harakomeshi

Harakomeshi is a freshly made harakomeshi.

Background of "Harakomeshi Festival

Harakomeshi is the soul food of Yuriage, Natori City, Miyagi Prefecture. Harakomeshi has a long history, especially in the Yuriage area, where the warm scene of local residents serving handmade harakomeshi to each other was seen on a daily basis. With the desire to pass on this traditional taste to future generations, the Yuriage Port Morning Market has held the "Harakomeshi Festival" since 1990, and this year marks the 28th time the festival has been held.

After the Great East Japan Earthquake, this annual festival has become an important opportunity for people who have left Yuriage to gather together for a taste of their hometown. However, in recent years, the catch of salmon has been decreasing due to rising sea water temperatures, and the price of "raw harako" in particular has skyrocketed.

Despite these circumstances, this year we will offer traditional harako-meshi made with an abundance of the new autumn delicacy "Nohime rice" and cooked in a broth that concentrates the flavor of the salmon. We hope that all visitors will take this opportunity to enjoy the autumn flavors of Yuriage to their hearts' content.

How to make "Harakomeshi

1. simmer salmon meat and ara with sake, soy sauce and other seasonings

2. cook fresh rice in the broth

3. top the cooked rice with the cooked salmon meat and salmon roe.
