Okaya City Hall, Nagano Prefecture, will hold the "Symposium Commemorating the 130th Anniversary of Takeo Takei's Birth" on Sunday, September 15, 2012, under the theme "Approaching the Essence of Takei's Art.
Takeo Takei, who celebrates the 130th anniversary of his birth this year, is a representative artist of Okaya City (Nagano Prefecture), Japan. Takeo Takei created a wide range of works, from children's drawings, prints, and published books to toys, poems, and children's stories. How were these works of art born, and how should they be evaluated in the future? In talks with experts in various genres, we will explore the essence of "Takei's art.

Takeo Takei celebrates the 130th anniversary of his birth in 2024. Since the last symposium was held 10 years ago, new discoveries and research have been made. With talks by various experts, we will consider Takei's art once again.

Takeru Matsumoto (Standing Advisor, Chihiro Art Museum)
Born in 1951. Founded Chihiro Art Museum Tokyo in 1977 and Chihiro Art Museum Azumino in 1997. He has served as director of the Chihiro Art Museum Tokyo, director of the Nagano Prefectural Museum of Art, and president of the Picture Book Society of Japan. Her books include "Iwasaki Chihiro" (Kodansha), "From the Window of Chihiro Art Museum" (Kamogawa Shuppan), and "Why I created Azumino Chihiro Art Museum" (Shin Nihon Shuppansha), and her picture books "White Horse" (Kodansha) and "The Child from Fukushima" (Iwasaki Shoten).
Yuko Takezako (Director, Iwasaki Chihiro Memorial Foundation)
Yuko Takezako joined the foundation in 1984, and has worked at the Azumino Chihiro Art Museum (Nagano Prefecture) since 1996. As a curator, she is in charge of exhibitions both inside and outside the museum, and is involved in the collection of artworks and international exchange. Author of "Hatsuyama Shigeru Eien no Modernist", "Chihiro no Showa", "Chihiro Diary" (Kawade Shobo Shinsha), "A Journey to Visit Chihiro" (Shin Nihon Shuppansha), and others. She is a member of the Picture Book Committee of the National School Library Association, a board member of JBBY, and a board member of the Tokyo Children's Library.
Naoko Nakui (Book Designer)
Born in 1976, Naoko Nakui graduated from Musashino Art University in 1997. She won the 45th Kodansha Publishing Culture Award Book Design Prize in 2014 and the Bronze Medal in the BEST BOOK DESIGN FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD in 2022.
Chieko Endo (Research Assistant, Center for the Study of Children's Culture, Shirayuri Women's College)
Born in 1982. She is a researcher of Takeo Takei and children's paintings. D. from Shirayuri Women's University. The title of her doctoral dissertation is "Takeo Takei's Creative Activities and the Formation of 'Children's Drawings'". After working as a school librarian in Yokohama, she currently works as a part-time assistant at the Research Center for Children's Culture at Shirayuri Women's University. She is also a part-time lecturer at Aoyama Gakuin University and other universities.
