What is ROBO-ONE?
ROBO-ONE is a martial arts competition for biped robots held twice a year since 2002. Biped robots defeat their opponents by punching, throwing, and other techniques.
The preliminary battles are two-minute rounds with a three-down system, and the best 32 robots advance to the finals.
In the final tournament, in addition to the robots that have survived the preliminary battles, the winner and top-ranked robots from each of the regional certification tournaments will participate in the tournament format. The winner is the first robot to get three downs in a three-minute round. It is not easy to take down a robot that walks around the ring at high speed. The tactics of the competitors are one of the highlights of the tournament.
A total of 48 robots will compete in the tournament to determine the strongest biped robot.
-Application Situation for Participation
Number of applications: 121 (77 from Japan, 44 from overseas)
■The appeal of ROBO-ONE
Participants design, process materials, assemble, and program their own robots to create one. It may take several months to more than a year to complete the project, making the preparation a lot of work. For this reason, they are able to acquire a wide variety of skills and knowledge, including those related to mechanisms and electricity. Recently, autonomous robots have been on the rise, requiring a wide range of skills. In addition, a robot completed with hard work does not always become a strong robot. In actual events, you may fail in the qualifying rounds or lose in the first round, but do not give up because of the loss; you can further improve your technical skills by brushing up your own robot.
In ROBO-ONE, competitors are enemies when they face each other during the competition, but they actively exchange information with each other between matches, at get-togethers, and on SNS. In addition, some skills are passed on from one friend to another or from senior to junior through student classes and club activities. We believe that ROBO-ONE is not only a martial arts event that can be seen from the outside, but that each participant has his or her own drama from the beginning of the robot design process, and that is one of the major attractions of ROBO-ONE.
