Launched in 1952, Record-Geijutsu was a monthly magazine covering information on classical music recording and recording media. It has been highly acclaimed as an unparalleled medium, but due to recent major changes in the circumstances surrounding the magazine, it will cease publication with the July 2023 issue. Since the announcement of the ceasing of publication, we have received requests from various quarters to continue the magazine, and Ongaku no Tomo has been exploring ways to pass on to the next generation the assets that Record-Geijutsu has accumulated over the past 70-odd years. By far the most common request we received from readers was to continue the "New Album Monthly Review," which provides accurate information on new releases and is useful as a reference for purchasing new releases. While it was not possible to continue it as a monthly magazine, Ongaku no Tomo Publishing Co. The answer was to transform the site into "Record-Geijutsu ONLINE," a portal site for classical music recording and archiving media targeting a wide range of audiences from beginners to the core.
With the difficulty of making an upfront investment, we decided to conduct a crowdfunding campaign in order to pass on "Record-Geijutsu" to the next generation, with the support of everyone. We have received 17,070,998 yen, which is 113% of our goal of 15,000,000 yen, and have decided to launch "Record Geijutsu ONLINE"!
Record-Geijutsu ONLINE" is a paid subscription service (monthly membership fee 1,000 yen [tax not included]), but it also offers a wide variety of free articles for a wide range of readers. It covers a wide range of diversified classical music media and delivers reliable information that only Ongaku-no-tomo-sha can provide. In addition, by taking advantage of the interactive nature of ONLINE media, we have also launched reader-participatory content to convey the appeal of classical music not only to core fans, but also to beginners.
