Spectrometer Corporation (Location: Hachioji City, Tokyo; President: Keiichi Katakura), which manufactures and sells custom-made optical measurement instruments based on its unique spectral measurement technology in the niche field of optical measurement, will participate in the exhibition "The 14th Agricultural WEEK (J-AGRI) Smart Agriculture EXPO 2024 (hosted by RX Japan Co., Ltd.)" to be held at Makuhari Messe from October 9 (Wed.) to 11 (Fri.), 2024. During the exhibition, we will display the technology that can detect environmental stress in plants introduced last year and a miniaturized prototype under development.

■Exhibition Overview
Spectrometer Inc. joined a research team led by Professor Chikahiro Miyake of Kobe University (*1) in December 2015 to develop a technology that can detect the risk of oxidative disorders caused in plants by triggering environmental factors (*2). As a result, they found an indicator that shows the degree of oxidative damage in plants and named the signal value "ROS (reactive oxygen species) marker. These ROS markers reflect stresses caused by nutrient deficiency, low temperature injury, strong sunlight, and drought in plants, and can be considered as environmental stress indicators that plants themselves are subjected to.
We believe that generating data rooted in the plant itself is an interesting and joyful discovery in itself, and will lead to objective knowledge of the plant from a new angle. We believe that the information obtained through this technology is the information most needed to realize smart agriculture, and we believe that it can contribute to making agriculture a comfortable and safe activity, and to people's health and peace of mind, as a new standard for the agriculture of the future. Our goal is a sustainable world where cultivation techniques are accumulated as data and passed on as wisdom to the next generation.
We are currently developing a compact device for measuring ROS markers (product name: RFM Chlorosense) for commercialization, and we will exhibit and introduce a prototype of the device at this exhibition. In addition, we are planning to conduct field verification of the equipment using this technology in the spring of next year. We will be accepting applications for those who are willing to cooperate in plant measurement and monitoring from the day of the exhibition. Please visit our booth for more details.
