About Ranzan Valley

Ranzan Valley, one of Saitama Prefecture's representative scenic spots, is a treasure of the town of Ranzan, with its beautiful scenery and natural environment created by rock pavements, the clear waters of Tsukigawa River, and surrounding trees.

The name "Ranzan" comes from the fact that when Seiroku Honda, Japan's first doctor of forestry, visited this area, he called it "Musashinokuni no Arashiyama" because of its similarity to the scenery of Arashiyama in Kyoto.

A part of the area has been preserved by the Saitama Green Trust Association as Lot No. 3.

The highlights of the area are the "stepping stones" that cross the Tsuki River with large stones, and the promenade from the observatory to the Akiko Yosano Poem Monument. In autumn, you can enjoy the colorful reflections of red and yellow maple, Japanese maple, Quercus serrata, and sawtooth oak on the surface of the water. The promenade is well maintained, and the scenery and birdsong will soothe you, making it hard to believe that you are only an hour away from the heart of the city.

About "Ranzan Valley Autumn Foliage Festival

The "Ranzan Valley Autumn Foliage Festival" will be held from November 16 (Sat.) to December 8 (Sun.) during the period from the beginning of the changing of the colors in Ranzan Valley to the best time to view the leaves. Because of the large number of trees, visitors can enjoy a long period of time as they can see gradations of green, red, yellow, and orange before the colors change to fiery red leaves at the peak of the season.

Event Day" will be held on November 23 (Sat., holiday) and 24 (Sun.) at the Arashiyama Gorge barbecue site. Under the theme of "Gotochi Guru Meguri (Local Guru Tour)," there will be a variety of food and beverage stalls run by members of the Ranzan Town Tourism Association and other stores selling goods, as well as workshops for making petri dish candles using maple trees and pine cones from the Ranzan Valley.

Volunteer guides will be on hand around the Ranzan Valley Observation Deck to provide information on the sights and history of Ranzan Valley, so please feel free to ask them for assistance.
