Momiji Matcha Parfait Limited to Autumn at Itohkyuemon, Kyoto Available from November 1

Established in the late Edo period, Uji, Kyoto Itohkyuemon (Location: Uji City, Kyoto, President: Joji Hirose) is offering Momiji Matcha Parfait at each Itohkyuemon teahouse from November 1, 2024 (Friday).

It's that time of year again when matcha parfaits take on autumn colors. The Momiji Matcha Parfait is an autumn-only seasonal parfait that expresses the rich and lustrous autumn, featuring Momiji-kinton (red bean paste with red bean paste), Momiji-jelly, chestnuts boiled in astringent skin, Narutokintoki sweet potato cream, and tuile almond cookies. The glass is filled with matcha jelly, hojicha molasses, and other ingredients unique to a tea shop to create the charm of Uji tea. The rearranged "Kiyomizu Momiji Matcha Parfait" will also be offered for a limited time at the Kiyomizu Sanneizaka Store Cafe, which opened in June this year.

In addition, "Momiji" is now available in limited quantities in the Matcha Parfait ice cream bar. This autumn-only flavor is topped with momiji jelly and astringent chestnuts and coated with sweet potato-flavored chocolate. It will be sold exclusively at Itohkyuemon stores.

History of Itohkyuemon

It was in the late Edo period (Tempo 3) that Tsuneemon Itoh I and Takizo Itoh were engaged in the tea business in the village of Meimura, Tahara Village (present-day Uji-Tawaraminami). The tea business was then passed down from generation to generation through Ito Tsuneemon II and Kyuzaburo, Ito Tsuneemon III and Yoshimatsu, and Ito Takichi IV. In 1952, Kyuzo Ito V moved from Uji-Tawara to Uji and opened a store selling Uji tea at Uji-Renge (present-day Heidoin Omotesando). In the same year, when he established the company, he took the name of Ito Tsuneemon, which had been passed down from generation to generation, and the first letter of "Hisa" in Ito Kyuzo's own name, and named the company "Itohkyuemon Co. The company continues to produce tea in Uji-Tawara, where the company was founded, at the tea plantation that has been passed down in the Ito family from generation to generation.
