Yamagishi Corporation (Representative: Shinji Yamagishi, Head Office: Awara City, Fukui Prefecture), which operates home centers, remodeling specialty stores, and mobile supermarkets mainly in Fukui and Ishikawa prefectures, has seen an increase in sales of emergency supplies, with a 160% increase from January 2024 to October 2024 compared to the previous year. In response to the earthquake in January 2024 and the torrential rains in September 2024, each store has created an emergency supply corner in response to customer requests. The disaster prevention supplies that are scattered in various sales areas are now gathered in one place, making it easier for customers to purchase them, and we have received feedback that this is very convenient.
Customers are becoming more aware of disaster prevention and demand for disaster prevention supplies is increasing.
On January 1, 2024, the Noto Peninsula earthquake struck the Noto region of Ishikawa Prefecture, and our Tazuruhama store suffered extensive damage. In addition, the government called for special precautions in accordance with the Nankai Trough Earthquake Temporary Information (huge earthquake warning), Typhoon No. 10 approached, and on September 21, 2024, the Okunoto Torrential Rains occurred. The repeated reports of disasters are expected to heighten residents' awareness of disaster prevention.
Our disaster prevention goods sales floor with a large selection of products has been well received.
Under such circumstances, our sales of disaster prevention supplies are increasing 1.6 times compared to last year. Although some products are in short supply and are not yet in stock, we have developed a wide variety of emergency supplies to better meet customer needs.
The products that are selling particularly well are,
Emergency backpacks containing daily necessities and foodstuffs for evacuation
Poles and mats to prevent furniture from toppling over during earthquakes
Collapsible water tanks
etc. In addition, sales of sandbags, bull sheets, and curing tape are also strong.
As for disaster prevention backpacks, we have had customers from various households purchase them, saying, "I didn't know such a convenient product existed" or "I feel safe with this one.
We also handle a small number of products such as generators, mobile batteries, and radios.
