Toyooka Theater, the only mini-theater in northern Hyogo Prefecture, Starts Crowdfunding for Installation of New Projector

Toyooka Community Cinema (Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture; Representative Director: Aiko Tanaka), which operates the Toyooka Theater, the only mini-theater in northern Hyogo Prefecture, has launched a crowdfunding campaign on MotionGallery to raise funds for the installation of a new projector. (The goal is to raise 8.5 million yen. The funds raised will be used to install a new projector (to replace the existing one).

Project Background and Outline

The Toyooka Theatre was opened in 1927, and after experiencing closure and suspension, it was revived in 2023. During its closure, we received calls from local residents to "make the Toyooka Theater the hub of the community" and "make the Toyooka Theater a magnet for the community. We have been promoting activities for a year and a half as "Toyooka Theatre for Everyone, Created by Everyone".

The digital projector, which is the core of the movie projection system, will need to be replaced in about 10 years. The digital projector used at the Toyooka Theater will soon be 10 years old. Replacement will require several million yen, including construction costs, etc. However, as a movie theater that is busy with day-to-day operations, spending several million yen is a very difficult situation to be in.

The Toyooka Community Cinema's philosophy is "to be close to everyone's daily life, to enjoy each other's company, and to support each other. In order to realize this philosophy, we need a stable environment for showing movies, which is the foundation of our business.

We have determined that it will be difficult to cover the costs through self-help efforts alone, so we have decided to challenge crowdfunding in order to ask for your cooperation.

Future Development

Toyooka Theatre opens its lobby to visitors as a "place for sharing" and aims to create a "community where people support and enjoy each other's company. The "Public Viewing," "Toyooka IDOBATA Conference," "Chatty Cinema Cafe," and "One-day Youth Center" events to open the Toyooka Theatre to young people have been realized based on the voices of local residents.

Through this project, we hope to stabilize the screening environment and continue to protect this "place for sharing. If the amount of support exceeds our goal, we will also proceed with the introduction of barrier-free facilities (e.g., admission for wheelchair users, improvement of viewing environment support, etc.) that we are considering.
