General Incorporated Association Agetsuchi Cinema Museum Opens and Establishes Fund Revitalization of an old movie theater into a new tourist attraction just a 3-minute walk from Matsumoto Castle, a national treasure.

The registration of the "General Incorporated Association Agetsuchi Cinema Museum" and the opening of the fund account have been completed at the "Agetsuchi Cinema Museum (https://retro-agetsuchi.com/)," a retro interactive museum that opened in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture in the summer of 2024, and was established by Large Hill Co. The registration of the "AGETSUCHI CINEMA MUSEUM" and the opening of the fund account have been completed. From February 1, 2025, the museum will begin accepting donations for the "Agetsuchi Cinema Revitalization Project Sponsorship" from those who support the revitalization project of the museum.

What is the Agetsuchi Cinema Museum?

The Agetsuchi Cinema Museum is a retro interactive museum that was created by revitalizing the Agetsuchi-Cinema, a movie theater that closed in 2008.

Since its opening in 1917 (Taisho 6) as the Matsumoto Denkikan, the Agetsuchi-Cinema has been a favorite movie theater of the community for about 90 years while undergoing a series of name changes. However, due to changes in the surrounding environment and the aging of the building, it was closed in 2008. In 2016, the building was registered as a "Modern Heritage of Matsumoto City" as a building that conveys the history of the modern city and improves the city's attractiveness.

The Agetsuchi-Cinema was revitalized as the "Agetsuchi Cinema Museum" through a business alliance between the Agetsuchi Shopping Street Promotion Association, the Taisho-Roman Town Development Council, and Large Hill, Inc.

The "Retro Poster Permanent Exhibition" carefully selected from approximately 7,000 movie posters in the collection of the Agetsuchi Cinema, "Small Hall Rental" with a newly built stage for public use, two film projectors used in those days, old movie advance tickets, movie magazines from more than 40 years ago, and actual items from the Japanese movie poster collection are on display, Since its opening in the summer of 2024, the museum has been widely visited not only by Matsumoto citizens and Matsumoto natives, but also by movie fans from all over Japan and those interested in the preservation of movie culture. In addition, we have gradually begun to receive sponsorships and donations of archival materials from those who have endorsed the revitalization project during their visits.

■New Efforts to Raise Funds for Repair and Operating Expenses

However, the museum is more than 100 years old and is in remarkable disrepair, requiring repairs of various sizes, and the management staff is constantly under pressure to cover repair and operating costs, so they are repairing the building little by little by hand.

In order to accelerate fundraising for repair and operation expenses, the directors of the Agetsuchi Shopping Street Promotion Association and Large Hill, Inc. jointly registered the establishment of a "General Incorporated Association Agetsuchi Cinema Museum," and opened a fund account to solicit sponsorship funds from a wide range of people. Large Hill has also made a contribution as a preparatory fund for the establishment of the museum.

We will start accepting sponsorship from the general public on February 1, 2025 on our official website as "Sponsorship for the Agetsuchi Cinema Revitalization Project".
