Japanese startup company leads the world's space burial business.
The space business is expanding globally. The number of rocket launches worldwide in 2024 will be the largest ever, with 259 launches, 134 of which will be in the United States. Of these, 134 were by the U.S.-based private company SpaceX. Japan, on the other hand, had significantly fewer launches (7). With the government considering revisions to the Space Activities Act in 2024, it is hoped that the private sector will finally be able to enter the space business. However, the reality is that it is currently only major companies that have entered the space business, and the huge costs involved make it difficult for startups to enter the space business.
SPACE NTK Corporation, a startup company that provides space burial services, will deliver the remains of 16 Japanese and a pet, DNA (hair), message cards, songs, and Morse code data from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, USA, at 20:34 Japan time on December 21, 2024 (Saturday). The original satellite containing the remains of 16 Japanese people and a pet, DNA (hair), message cards, songs, and Morse code data was successfully launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, USA. Our original satellite "MAGOKORO No. 2," based on the black color produced by Maverick Space Systems, was loaded onto SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket. This is the second successful launch for MHI, following the first in April 2022. The previous satellite was made in Japan. It was the world's first single launch with only the remains onboard by an original production. The third launch is scheduled for the spring of 2026.
Mr. Elon Musk shared his dream and seized the opportunity to pursue it.
When he was a child, his mother told him, "When you die, you become a star and watch over people on earth," which inspired him to dream of becoming a star when he died. After working for a funeral service company and starting her own business, she established her current company in 2017 while working as a funeral planner and moved to the United States by herself. An opportunity came the following year, 2018. I had the opportunity to give a speech about my dream, the world's first "Space SOH(R)" business, at the International Space Development Conference in the United States. In other companies' space funeral services, remains are scattered from the sky on a balloon, or a small amount of remains are deposited on a satellite in a shared spacecraft with other objects. Space SOH(R), however, is the world's first attempt to make it possible to store all human and pet remains in a special box and to launch a satellite with only the remains. The names of those who have deposited their remains will be engraved on the top of the special box. After orbiting the earth as a star for about one year, the satellite will re-enter the atmosphere and burn up to become a shooting star. This is a new form of funeral service that allows people to look up at the sky to remember and remember the deceased. While deepening his friendship with an engineer he met at the conference, he contacted him to make preparations for the Space SOH(R). His boss, Mr. Elon Musk, was also sympathetic to the world's first space funeral business, and we signed a contract with SpaceX for the use of their rockets, making our dream come true.
Space SOH" conveys the wish to become a star and watch over everyone.
One of the bereaved family members who attended the reception said, "It makes me happy to think that they are watching over us from the sky. I want to go to space when I pass away! One person who had his DNA (hair) inserted as a prenatal burial said happily, "I can boast that my DNA went to space, so I am a DNA astronaut! I can boast that I am a DNA astronaut!
Representative's voice: "It was originally scheduled for October, but after five postponements, it was finally carried out, so during the countdown, I prayed desperately for a safe launch. I was in tears when I was sure that the launch would be a success. I rejoiced with everyone who had participated in the launch with me at the site, and reported the success to the participants watching in Japan. We were pleased with the success. When the remains are buried, sadness remains, but by lifting them up into space to become stars, dreams and hopes are added to them. Death, which comes to everyone, changes from something sad to something moving. Seeing the cheerful expressions on everyone's faces, I feel that there will come a time in the near future when space burial will become a new form of memorial service."
In 2025, we plan to hold a launch debriefing in March, followed by lectures and events on Space SOH(R) with Alpha Club Musashino, a major funeral service company with which we have formed a partnership.
