Khmer cuisine has such power that it slowly cheers you up from the soul. Whether it is meat, fish, vegetables, or handmade seasonings, the sense of oneness felt when everyone eats together with a sense of the importance of life.

Herbs and spices are used in just the right balance, and while energizing, they are not too stimulating and are gentle on the stomach. It is also gentle on the soul.

Here are five recipes from Cambodian home cooking.

Biography of Asami Maki, Supervisor

Born in Kagoshima Prefecture and raised in Wakayama Prefecture. She currently runs a restaurant by Lake Miyagase with her husband and a travel agency that introduces the area. She is also the representative of a non-profit organization that supports education and living environment in Cambodia and other countries. Her special skills are driving and garaging a car, cooking, and English conversation. Through cross-cultural exchange, I would like to create a world where people can share their warmth with each other regardless of nationality, gender, or age. We are working every day to be a part of that.
