Graduation Event Brings 300 Years of Tradition to Life Children at Mitsukuno Nursery School (Niigata Prefecture) Oguni Washi paper to create a "one-of-a-kind" graduation certificate!

Mitsukino Nursery School (Location: Honsho, Mitsuke City, Niigata Prefecture; Operated by Rustic Corporation; Representative: Ryuichi Hayami) is a small-scale nursery school for local families raising children and childcare workers, based on the concept of "enriching children's lives. Currently, 34 children attend the school.

As part of their child-centered care, three of the older children from Mitsukino's preschool traveled 35 km to Oguni-machi, Nagaoka City, to experience a traditional local project, making one-of-a-kind graduation certificates with their own hands.

This was the first time for the children to visit the Oguni Washi Workshop (operated by the Oguni Washi Production Association, located at 145 Oguriyama, Oguni-machi, Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture (https://www.oguniwashi.com/). They were nervous at the sight of the tools they had never seen before and the unique atmosphere of the workshop, but soon after receiving an explanation from Mr. Imai of the workshop, they put it into practice!

They earnestly tried their hand at papermaking, feeling the coldness and thickening of the water.

From raw materials to washi, a sheet of paper is made through many processes. This is a special piece of washi, only one in the world. We are looking forward to the day when the children will receive it as their graduation certificates.
