田苑酒造株式会社
DEN-EN SHUZO CO.,LTD. (Satsumasendai City, Kagoshima Prefecture) will release a barrel-aged sake(*1) "Kunkoh" on March 17 (Monday), developed to commemorate the 40th anniversary of "DEN-EN Kin Label" in December 2025.
Main visual
Barley shochu distilled liquor suitable for storage is aged in barrels used for Scotch whisky. Our blending technology has optimized the smoky peat aroma of the original shochu to create a high quality flavor.
1 Since there is a limit to the coloring level of shochu, we add dietary fiber in amounts that do not affect the flavor. Therefore, it is classified as a "liqueur" under the Liquor Tax Law.
◆Background of development
The alcoholic beverage market is shrinking due to the declining birthrate, aging population, changing lifestyles and diversifying tastes, and the shochu market is similarly affected. On the other hand, whiskey, sparkling spirits, and gin are growing in the market.
Kunkoh" challenges new possibilities for shochu in terms of flavor characteristics, and offers new value not only to shochu users, but also to newcomers who have never had shochu before.

Brand Story
A special bottle made by blending the ideal taste of barley shochu matured in white oak barrels with Scotch whisky barrels imported from Islay, the sacred island of Scotch, which has a unique aroma.
In 1982, we developed Japan's first(*2) barrel-aged barley shochu. The original syochu liqueur, which had been refined with the passion and skill of the brewers, was carefully brewed using groundwater of soft quality filtered by the Shirasu Plateau in Kagoshima, and a unique method called "music brewing" that utilizes the vibrations of classical music. The barley shochu is then slowly aged in Scotch casks over a long period of time to give it a high quality flavor.
Enjoy its smoky aroma, depth, and presence. Please enjoy the harmony that only Japanese shochu can offer.

About DEN-EN SHUZO
Since its establishment in 1890, Den-en Shuzo has continued to challenge and innovate outside the box. 1985 saw the release of Japan's first barrel-stored barley shochu, "DEN-EN Kin Label". The company has created the concept of "long-term storage" and "barrel storage," which were rare for shochu at the time, as well as "music brewing," in which classical music is played to accelerate fermentation and maturation, and has created a taste that makes full use of its unique skills and sophistication without being content to rely on tradition.
