Background of Development

Oze National Park has been a pioneer in nature conservation activities such as restoration of the marshland and garbage collection campaigns since the marshland was devastated by overuse in the past. For this reason, Oze is called the birthplace of the nature conservation movement in Japan.

It would be a waste if wooden paths, which are a symbol of such nature conservation, were to become unusable due to age-related deterioration and the materials they replace were to be scrapped! It is a waste to have these wooden paths, which are a symbol of nature conservation, deteriorate over time and become unusable, and the materials that replace them are left as waste.

In such a situation, TAGO STUDIO, headed by Kunio Tago, a composer and music producer who has provided music to many artists, has come up with the "Historic Phone" series of headphones that reuse wood waste as part of its efforts to promote a sustainable society. We have made a prototype of headphones using wood from a wooden road in Oze and asked if we could use it to help promote our village.

The wood used for the housing, the main component of this project, was secured with the cooperation of Tokyo Electric Power Company Renewable Power Company, which owns approximately 40% of the land on the Gunma Prefecture side of Oze National Park, and Tokyo Power Technology Company, which manages about 1/3 of the wooden paths in Oze. Ltd. and Tokyo Power Technology Co.

The wooden paths were removed from Oze for replacement and processed into headphones, which is a sustainable approach to find new value in wooden paths.
