The event is designed to take advantage of the elegant environment of the sake brewery in the summer as well, allowing visitors to relax and enjoy sake in the company's premises, which include the sake brewery main building and rice cellar, a 160-year-old tangible cultural property registered by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. Many visitors come from nearby Sano City, but in recent years the number of visitors from the Tokyo metropolitan area has been increasing.
Launched in 2005, this year marks the 21st year of the event, which is expected to attract approximately 1,000 participants (72 people x 14 days). During the three years of the Corona Disaster, the event was held with take-out and reduced content, but since 2023 it has been conducted almost entirely under the pre-Corona Disaster structure.

Yoshinori Shimada, President and Representative Director, said, "Last December, "traditional sake brewing" was registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. Traditional sake brewing using Japanese koji is technically complex, but it was also widely recognized as a culture. We expect an increase in the number of people from Japan and abroad who are interested in the process, and we hope that this year's Hiya Garden will attract a large number of visitors," he said.
