Echizen City, Fukui Prefecture, is a center for nature-based health tourism Yatsusugi Japanese Herb Road" opened in Echizen City, Fukui Prefecture! Unveiling of Yatsusugi Japanese Herb Road on May 25 (Sun.)

The "Japanese Herb Road" certified by the Japan Herb Federation is a nature-experiencing health tourism center that proposes new values through "Japanese herbs," the "treasures at your feet," and conveys the unique charm of the region to multiple generations.

In early summer of 2025, the second hiking course in Japan, "Yatsusugi Japanese Herb Road," will open in Echizen City, Fukui Prefecture, Hokuriku. The 1.1km-long course is easy to walk and has scenic spots where nature changes from season to season, making it perfect for casual hiking. In addition, the original character "Japanese Herb Happa-tai" will guide visitors through stories related to Japanese herbs here and there in the forest.

On Sunday, May 25, an opening ceremony and Japanese herb walk will be held at the site. Fresh air will pass through the fresh green forest, and seasonal plants and trees will welcome you. The event is free of charge for everyone, including a Japanese herb lunch tasting experience (advance registration required; some menu items are charged). We hope you will visit this event, which marks the beginning of a lasting relationship between plants and people.

What is "Japanese Herb Road"?

The "Wa Herb Road" certified by the Japan Herb Federation is a nature-experiencing health tourism center that meets the following requirements. The project is a cross-national initiative to propose new values and communicate the unique charm of the region through the "treasure at one's feet," Japanese herbs.

<Requirements for certification

(1) The original Japanese herb vegetation (herbs and trees) in accordance with the climate of the region must be confirmed.

(2) There must be at least one safe walking course where the Japanese herbs described in (1) above can be observed.

(3) Content, materials, and facilities must be available for viewing and learning about the species and ecology of the Japanese herbs that live in the area, as well as the culture of useful local plants.

Through this initiative, a nature trail utilizing the local Japanese herb vegetation will be established, aiming to attract visitors to the area, improve the health of local residents, and serve as a base for environmental education. At the same time, "Japanese Herb Field Master Courses" are being held throughout Japan to train local Japanese herb guides (guides) who can play an active role in the area.

Plants that have been widely used in daily life in various parts of Japan since before the Edo period, and the culture that makes use of them.

Established in 2009 as a voluntary organization, it became a general incorporated association in 2017. The organization named the useful plants that Japanese people have used in their daily lives "Japanese herbs" and is promoting the "Japanese Herb Project" to rediscover the value of the plants under our feet. With the mission of "inheriting and creating a culture of useful plants in Japan," the company is engaged in activities aimed at proposing new and old lifestyles and creating a sustainable society through the "Japanese Herb Certification Test," a systematic study of the plant culture that has been passed down traditionally in accordance with the climate of each region of Japan, classroom and hands-on courses, training of instructors, projects to support regional revitalization, media transmission, etc. We are also engaged in activities aimed at proposing new and old lifestyles and creating a sustainable society.
