Representative Sakurai, who aims to balance work with treatment for intractable diseases and participation in society
In conjunction with national efforts to foster inclusive workplaces, METI hosted a webinar on March 17, 2025, titled “Reasonable Accommodation & Neurodiversity Seminar – Aiming to Build a Symbiotic Society and Corporate Culture Where Individuals Can Thrive.” The event emphasized the importance of creating work environments that respect and embrace diversity. We believe that our inclusion in this casebook reflects recognition of our ongoing practices aligned with these values.

Sakura Star Travel LLC is a unique enterprise that provides travel-related services and social participation support for people with disabilities and chronic illnesses. It leverages the firsthand experience and qualifications of individuals living with intractable diseases. Representative Jun Sakurai, who personally lives with two designated intractable diseases—Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP) and Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease, founded the company in 2016 based on his own journey of living with and recovering from illness.
Today, in addition to operating a travel agency, Sakurai works as a career consultant, offering corporate and municipal training and lectures, and providing career support to people with intractable diseases—demonstrating how one can pursue both treatment and meaningful work.

This publication not only acknowledges our decade-long effort to achieve social inclusion while managing chronic illness, but also serves as encouragement for others striving to balance work and health. We remain committed to raising awareness of “invisible disabilities” and the “realities that are hard to see,” aiming to help build a more inclusive infrastructure that supports the lives and careers of all individuals.
