Roadside Station Ogawamachi" renewal opening on 5/30 (Fri.)
The concept is a village of handmade washi paper and organic products. A "place that connects the thoughts and blessings of Ogawamachi" where people, nature, and food come together.
Only 1.5 hours from central Tokyo. Located slightly west of central Saitama Prefecture and surrounded by the lush green mountains of Outer Chichibu, Ogawa is home to the traditional industry of "Ogawa washi" (Japanese paper), nurtured by the clear waters of the Tsukigawa River, a first-class river, which flows through the center of the city. The magnificent nature and clean water have also nurtured a culture of fermentation and brewing, and a variety of food culture nurtured by the local climate has been carefully handed down to the present day. The concept of this facility is "a village of handmade washi paper and organic products. The roadside station will become a center of exchange for regional revitalization, a "place where people, nature, and food meet, and where the brilliance of Ogawa-machi - the thoughts and blessings of Ogawa-machi - are connected.
We will provide a place where the charms of Ogawa-cho's history, culture, and nature are woven into the future, and where people can meet and interact with each other.
In the newly developed "industrial area promotion facility," a sales area featuring delicacies from Saitama and other prefectures will offer a variety of local products, including agricultural products, leeks, potatoes, and fermented foods that represent Saitama, as well as "Kenpi-Mitarashi Dango," which are made with "domestic special cultivated soy sauce Kura-Zukuri" from Yamaki Brewery, a long-established brewery in Saitama, and other products. Ogawa Soft," which uses milk produced in Saitama Prefecture and is inspired by the Tsukigawa area of Ogawa Town, and Bakery Ogawako, which offers bread made from Fukaya negi (deep fried leeks). At the "Satoyama Gohan Shokudo," a 140-seat restaurant, visitors can fully enjoy local ingredients such as vegetables from organic farmers, Fukaya leeks, and fermented foods. Furthermore, the traditional craft facility where visitors can learn about Ogawa washi paper has been upgraded, and visitors can experience paper-making and watch a demonstration of Hosokawa washi, a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. The park has also been transformed into a new one-day excursion spot that can be enjoyed throughout the day as a hands-on park that combines "food, crafts, and nature.
Correction: The information about the onigiri (rice ball) take-out store in the first release was incorrect, and no such store has opened. The "Kempi-and-mitarashi Ogawa-an" and "Bakery Ogawako" as well as "Ogawasoft" will be the three new stores.
The sales area will offer a variety of products that make the most of local specialties, such as local vegetables, leeks, potatoes, and fermented foods.
In the sales area, a variety of items such as vegetables, fruits, livestock products, marine products, and various processed products from local farmers under contract will be sold. Souvenirs using local specialties such as agricultural products, leeks, potatoes, and fermented foods representative of Saitama will also be available.
