The workshop will be held at the same time as the "Charity Cutting + Hair Donation" event to be held on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at "Tekuno Kawasaki" (Takatsu-ku, Kawasaki).
As a new trial of the "Smile Project" this year, an upcycling workshop will be held at the same time with the cooperation of "Environmental Rodriguez," a student NPO of Waseda University. The workshop will provide a new opportunity for visitors to experience the upcycling of waste materials from the beauty industry, namely polypropylene (PP) caps for colorants, in an environmentally friendly way.

COMEL" is a comb made of recycled plastic, which was created based on the concept of "combing" and "combing each other. Each comb consists of approximately 7 to 10 caps, and each cap has been shown to reduce CO2 emissions by 29.9g (equivalent to the amount of CO2 absorbed by a cedar tree in one day).
Shredded caps become "COMEL
Turning waste materials from the beauty industry into valuable resources
From "throw away" to "creation" that circulates at salons.
In 2015, we started activities to recycle aluminum tubes of hair colorants, which had been discarded in the beauty industry, and established a nationwide collection system to support reconstruction following the Kumamoto earthquake. The project is an initiative to melt plastic materials such as PP caps and other plastic materials to be reborn as recycled products called "COMEL".
The members of PPW are students who "take used plastic and turn it into something new with their own hands. This is a great opportunity to think about environmental issues from a familiar perspective, making it ideal for free research during summer vacation.
Waste materials (color tubes) from a beauty salon
Washed color caps (color caps)
This project is a good opportunity for students to think about environmental issues from a familiar perspective,
Visualize the connection between our daily lives and environmental issues
Participants can feel that they can be a part of the change.
Reconstructing the relationship between materials and people
The project's goal is to help children understand "Why do we need to recycle? Why do we need to recycle? and "Why do waste materials become beautiful?
COMEL, with its beautiful colors and form, overturns the negative impression of the word "waste plastic," and is popular as a design product that connects with the environment in everyday life.
PPW also sells its products on its e-commerce site, and other products will also be exhibited at the venue on the day of the event.
