Toto-Umi (located in Chuo-ku, Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture; Representative Director: Toshimitsu Koga), a general incorporated association that provides continuous employment support type B for people with disabilities, is conducting a project to establish a laundromat "Hankuro Laundry" as a local community space where the general public, the elderly, and those raising children can casually drop by. Background of the project

Up to six people enjoy meals at Hankuro House PLUS, a set meal restaurant (open 11:00-14:00) operated on the same site. Observing the natural exchange that takes place here, we came to feel that "if there were a place where more people could casually drop by, it would further deepen ties in the community," which led to the implementation of this project.

Three thoughts

(1) Establish a bright and safe laundromat in the community that can be easily used by the elderly and those raising children

We want to create a "third place" where everyone can gather with peace of mind: elderly people having trouble carrying heavy laundry alone, parents rushing around at kindergarten pick-up time. We want to create a warm place where people can naturally gather and support each other while solving such small daily problems.

2. Creating jobs (cleaning, management, guidance) that people with disabilities can be involved in on a daily basis

We would like to create an environment where users of Type B continuous employment support facilities, who want to provide "rewarding work" to people with disabilities, can work with confidence and pride by being involved in jobs for which local people say "thank you". It will also lead to stable job opportunities and higher wages.

3. Become a familiar local spot where the local character "Hankuro" plays an active role!

We want to nurture "connections" that support each other throughout the community. We want to create a place where neighbors and intergenerational interaction, which is often lost in today's society, can be naturally generated through the daily act of washing clothes and where the entire community can be enveloped in family-like warmth.
