Agricultural AI Hackathon 2025 Starts

MetagriLabo Community, a farmer support community that promotes agriculture and new technologies (operated by NouJouJin Co., Ltd.), has started the "Agricultural AI Hackathon 2025" on July 23, 2025, the first in the industry (*1) to fully recommend "Vibe Coding," an interactive development method with AI. Why "Vibe Coding" in agriculture now?

The rules of business are about to undergo a fundamental change, and we live in an era in which people in all industries are expected not only to master AI, but also to be able to "create" tools to solve their own problems using AI. Vibe Coding," which uses natural language for development, makes this possible. Vibe Coding breaks down programming barriers and opens the door to an era in which "anyone with an idea can become a developer.

On the other hand, Japanese agriculture is facing a triple challenge: aging farmers (average age 69.2*2), slow data utilization, and climate change risk. The key to overcoming this situation lies not in the hands of outside experts, but in the hands of the farmers themselves, the parties to the challenges. The vast amount of knowledge they have in their heads, and the voices from the field saying, "This is inconvenient," are the source of truly valuable solutions.

Vibe Coding is a magic wand that instantly converts this wisdom from the field into systems and applications. Vibe Coding digitizes work that has until now relied on intuition and experience, and transforms the know-how of veterans into formal knowledge that can be passed on to the next generation. This can be achieved in the farmer's own words, without paying expensive fees to IT vendors or IT systems.

This hackathon is a grand challenge to pour this great wave of "democratization of creativity" into the realm of agriculture, which supports Japan's food industry. We are convinced that the chemical reaction generated when Japan's most traditional industry meets the most novel development methods will be the driving force that propels Japan's agricultural industry to the next stage.

Three "Challenge Letters" from Top Runner Farmers

The greatest feature of this hackathon is that all the challenges presented are the essential challenges of the top-runner farmers themselves, who are at the forefront of the agricultural industry. These are not mere "DX on the table," but rather important issues that were born from the sincere voices of farmers in the field and that, if solved, could revolutionize the entire industry.

Challenge (1): Kawakami Farm (Dairy Innovator)

This is a grand theme that uses a data platform to challenge the structural problems facing the Japanese dairy industry. Another theme is to create a new fan economic sphere with "Milk Monster," a food education game that involves consumers.
