■The potential of "Haguna" chosen by a world-renowned diving leader
The project will take place in the Haguna area of Bohol Island in the Philippines, where pristine nature remains strong. Although surrounded by beautiful coral reefs and diverse marine life, the area lacks tourism infrastructure and has limited diving facilities. The reason why MICA dared to establish a base in such a place is his strong desire to "convey the charm of the pristine ocean without destroying it. This approach of balancing tourism and nature conservation has the potential to become a new benchmark for the diving industry in the future.
A resort concept that connects Japanese divers and the local community in symbiosis with the local community.
The project envisions a "marine resort in symbiosis with the local community," which will be operated in cooperation with local people, and will not remain a mere diving facility. Through employment of local staff, training of eco-guides, and beach cleanup activities, the project aims to create both employment and marine conservation. This will provide new value to divers visiting from Japan and around the world as a place where they can contribute to the local community just by diving.
■Noteworthy ripple effects on the diving and tourism industries
As an example of the intersection of tourism and environmental protection, this project is a remarkable model not only for the diving industry but also for the tourism industry in the Philippines. The project is attracting interest from many quarters as a case study that shows how sustainable tourism can be and how to collaborate with local communities, rather than merely attracting foreign tourists.
