Adopted Title
Development of automated laser peening technology for 3D structures and its application
-Automated positioning for complex geometries
Outline of Research
This research aims to develop high-precision automated surface treatment technology using a compact laser peening system for structural members with complex three-dimensional shapes, such as aluminum alloys used in transportation equipment and aircraft. This will enable a significant improvement in fatigue strength and design of lightweight structural members, and will be applied to strengthen the competitiveness of advanced industries, especially in the automotive and aerospace fields, which are the key industries of Aichi Prefecture.
This project will be conducted under an international joint research framework with Osaka University, LAcubed Corporation, Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon GmbH of Germany, and Swinburne University of Technology of Australia, with international sharing in material evaluation and stress analysis. The research will be conducted under the international collaboration with Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon GmbH and Swinburne University of Technology in Australia.
Workshop and International Symposium (planned)
In order to widely disseminate the results of this project and promote collaboration with researchers and industries in Japan and overseas, the first workshop using a small laser peening device and an international symposium on laser peening will be held in Aichi Prefecture in mid-November 2025 in a format open to the public. The workshop and symposium will be held in Aichi Prefecture in mid-November 2025. In addition to the technical introduction including demonstration of the equipment, we are currently preparing a plan to provide a forum for exchange with international research institutions.
■Past Achievements and Positioning of this Research
This research is based on the results of the "Development of a portable laser peening system that can be applied to narrow areas" (project management organization: Nagoya Institute of Industrial Science and Technology, main research implementing organization: LAcubed Co. (Project Management Organization: Nagoya Institute of Industrial Science and Technology, Principal Research Organization: LAcubed Co.
This project falls under the current "Go-Tech Project".
The international framework of the Aichi Knowledge Hub Aichi Priority Research Project Phase V aims to strengthen competitiveness in the global market through collaboration between companies and research institutions in the prefecture and advanced research institutions overseas. The adoption of this research project is expected to help develop innovative surface modification technology from Aichi Prefecture for the global market, as well as contribute to strengthening the foundation of local industry and fostering human resources.
