The distinctive feature of this course is to nurture disaster prevention specialists who have knowledge not only of "disaster prevention" but also of "recovery and reconstruction. Upon completion of the course, students will be qualified to take the examination for the "Certified Disaster Prevention Specialist (certified by the Japan Society for Certified Disaster Prevention Specialists).

In these two courses (conducted over four days of intensive lectures), students will deepen their understanding of natural disasters through lectures and group work by on-campus faculty and practitioners, learn the knowledge and skills necessary for disaster prevention and recovery from various perspectives, and develop the basic skills needed to be active in the community as a disaster prevention professional in the future. Outline of the Special Program for Human Resources for Disaster Prevention and Recovery

Following the Noto Peninsula Earthquake in January 2024, there was an urgent need to develop human resources who can utilize their expertise to support disaster-stricken areas and collaborate with local governments. In April 2025, we established this educational program with the aim of fostering highly skilled human resources who can contribute to the recovery and reconstruction of local communities and to the prevention and mitigation of disasters in society, based on the scientific, ethical, and empirical skills acquired through the study of scientific knowledge on disasters, recovery, reconstruction, and disaster prevention and mitigation. This educational program is offered as a regular course of study in the bachelor's, master's, and master's degree programs, and consists of "Introduction to Disaster Prevention and Recovery Studies A and B," common education subjects related to disaster prevention and recovery, and specialized education subjects. A certificate of completion is issued to those who fulfill the prescribed requirements.
