First of its kind in Japan! Tokyo's Remote Island Shikinejima Transforms into a "Mecca for Solo Female Travelers Happy Reborn Project in Shikinejima" starts on October 1

Kirakira League Inc. The entire island of Shikinejima, the first phase of the project, will be reborn as a "sacred place for solo female travelers" from October to April of the following year, and unique hospitality programs will be offered.

Project Background

Shikinejima Island is about a 3-hour high-speed boat ride from central Tokyo. With its white sand beaches and clear waters, it is a popular tourist destination for families and young couples in summer. On the other hand, there are few tourists from fall to spring, and making the most of the off-season has been a challenge.

In the fall of 2023, branding producer Miki Hiradate experienced a work vacation on Shikinejima. In addition to the natural beauty of the remote island, she was surprised by the comfortable stay environment, including Wi-Fi and cashless service, and felt that it was "the best place for women tired from work to face themselves," which prompted the launch of this project.

In a survey of career women in the Tokyo metropolitan area conducted in 2024, Shikinejima received a high evaluation, with one respondent saying, "I would like to visit during off-season, not in the middle of summer, for a solo trip. In the future, Shikinejima will be an island with two faces, one for "family tourism in summer" and the other for "solo female travelers from fall to spring," and we will continue to promote its new attractions.

For women in a transitional stage of their lives, this year's brochure proposes three ways to spend time on the island: "retreats," "work vacations," and "heartbreak vacations. Through solo travel, we will support travelers to reflect on themselves and lead to a better tomorrow.
