Manda Fermentation Co. (President: Yoshinori Matsuura, Location: Innoshima, Onomichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture) will tie up with the movie "Peleliu - Guernica in Paradise," which will be released nationwide on December 5, 2012, with the theme of passing on history and technology.

Peleliu Island, the setting of the film, was one of the hardest hit areas during the last World War. The island was scarred by the battle, which has been called the "forgotten battle" because of its high casualties and harshness. 80 years have passed, and while it still bears the scars of the battle, it has regained the beautiful greenery it once had.

Peleliu -Guernica in Paradise

It is September 1944, at the end of the Pacific War.

Peleliu, a small island in the South Seas, was called "paradise" because of its beauty. However, it was transformed into a harsh battlefield where 40,000 U.S. troops and 10,000 Japanese troops clashed.

The protagonist is Hitoshi Tamaru, a young man who aspires to be a manga artist. He is sent to the island as a Japanese soldier and assigned as a "merit officer" to record the last days of his fallen comrades and convey them to their bereaved families. He meets his comrade-in-arms, Private First Class Yoshishiki, and while developing a friendship with him during the hellish days, he searches for the meaning of "living" and "fighting.

The endless bombardment, hunger and thirst, and the death of his comrades. The Japanese army is gradually driven into a corner, and the only path left for them is to "survive.

Out of 10,000 soldiers, only 34 survived. The "paradise" had turned into a "hell. Tamaru and Yoshishiki tried their best to survive in this harsh and cruel world. What did these two young soldiers see on the battlefield of madness?

It is a masterpiece that depicts the extraordinary reality of war so realistically, despite its adorable three-headed characters.

The work, which won the 46th Japan Cartoonists Society Award for Excellence, has finally been made into an animated film. It is a record of young people who lived "everyday life on the battlefield.
