Launch of Ransomware Attack Prevention Solution Dual Protection with Privileged ID Protection and Immutable Backup
アセンテック株式会社
Ascentec Corporation (headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Takashi Matsuura, President & CEO; hereinafter referred to as "the Company") announces the launch of a security solution that combines "protection of privileged IDs" and "protection of backup data" to protect companies from the threat of ransomware attacks.
This solution combines the products of Keeper Security, a leading Privileged Access Management (PAM) company, and Wasabi Technologies, an enterprise cloud storage provider.
In recent years, ransomware attacks have gone beyond mere data encryption to force companies to pay a ransom by having the attacker take the following "decisive two steps".

Steps in a ransomware attack
Step 2: Privilege ID exploitation and privilege escalation
After the initial intrusion, the highest system privileges are seized within the network, and access is gained deep into the system.
Step 4: Tampering and destruction of backup data
In order to make data recovery impossible, they target backup storage as well as system data, and attempt to tamper with or delete the data.
Countermeasures against these steps are critical to prevent the core of the attack and enable business continuity.
This solution combines the following two products to address the above two major attack steps in the ransomware attack process to build a robust security structure.
1. Privileged ID Protection by Keeper Security
Keeper Security's Privileged Access Management (PAM) solution stores all privileged identities in containers protected by the highest level of encryption to ensure access with the least privilege. This prevents an attacker from successfully completing Step 2, which is to seize the privileged IDs and take control of the entire network. Access logging and monitoring functions immediately detect and restrict suspicious activity to prevent further damage.
2. ensure immutable* backup data with Wasabi's cloud storage
Data stored in Wasabi's immutable storage is physically impossible to alter, delete, or overwrite by any third party, including system administrators or attackers with the highest authority, for a set retention period. It also includes a defensive feature called MUA (Multi-User Authentication), which prevents data deletion or other destructive operations from being performed unless the approval process is completed by multiple people.
These disable Step 4, where ransomware attempts to destroy the system and backups at the same time, allowing companies to always have a secure recovery point.
*Immutable Storage: Storage technology that prevents any modification or deletion of data once it is stored.

Example of ransomware protection using Keeper Security and Wasabi
Creating a dual line of defense, with Keeper Security blocking Step 2 and Wasabi's cloud storage disabling Step 4, is one of the most cost-effective approaches in a modern cybersecurity strategy. Implementing this solution will dramatically improve cyber resiliency to enable rapid and reliable business recovery.
In response to the growing threat of cyber attacks, we will continue to propose security solutions best suited to our customers' environments and support their secure digital transformation.
