The 9th SRC Special Lecture" to be held on February 24 in person and online ~Why is it that "music" that is "exactly as it should be" moves people?
- Reconsidering the relationship between sound, consciousness, and the body through misunderstandings of frequency music
一般財団法人スピリチュアリティ・リサーチセンター
The Spirituality Research Center (SRC, President: Koichiro Ito) will hold the 9th SRC Special Lecture, featuring conductor and music researcher Taku Suzuki, as a scientific and interdisciplinary examination of the structure of "emotion" produced by music and the misunderstandings surrounding "frequency music," which has been the subject of much social interest in recent years. This special lecture will scientifically and interdisciplinary examine the structure of "emotion" produced by music and the misunderstanding surrounding "frequency music," which has been attracting public attention in recent years.
This course will cross music, acoustics, perception, and consciousness research to examine the relationship between sound and human physicality and emotionality from multiple perspectives. It is an opportunity not only for musicians and researchers, but also for educators and the general public to fundamentally rethink their understanding of sound.

■Why "Accurate Music" Moves People
In recent years, in the field of music production, the assumption that "arrangements and effects must be added to create emotion" is shared as if it were half common sense. However, Mr. Suzuki, based on his many years of conducting and vast experience in performance, clearly points out the following.
The greatest impression is created by "precise performance" that follows the notes as they are played.
Accuracy" here does not mean mere mechanical precision. It refers to the purest manifestation of the composer's design of order, breath, pause, and movement. This is a core value of music that is often lost in the overuse of arrangements.

■What is the "Misunderstanding" of Frequency Music?
Currently, information such as "◯◯Hz is good for the body" or "certain frequencies bring healing" is widely distributed mainly through social networking services and video distribution. However, if frequencies themselves are the main body of healing, then it should be enough to listen to "frequencies alone" instead of music.
In reality, however, healing as an art form is not possible. What people receive is the relationship between temporality, order, movement, and resonance within the overall structure of music, and it is the interaction of these that evokes emotion.
In this course, we will organize this point from a musicological and perceptual science perspective, and calmly decipher the confusion surrounding "frequency music.

■Interdisciplinary Research by Tak Suzuki
In order to unravel such confusion about frequency theory, Suzuki began research in 2019 focusing on the interaction of "sound, water, and consciousness." He has critically and scientifically analyzed the so-called "frequency myths" through experimental verification under various acoustic conditions, including solfeggio frequencies.
In addition, Dr. Suzuki is one of the few practicing researchers who has crossed the boundaries of musicology, performance practice, and human perception and consciousness research.
In 2024, he presented his research at the academic division of an academic organization that conducts research on psychology and consciousness, and his findings were evaluated as a peer-reviewed paper and published in the abstracts of the organization.
Public Value
This course is more than just a music lecture; it has the following public values for today's society. 1.
1. construction of a sound knowledge base in the information environment
We will provide society with a scientifically based "understanding of sound" by sorting out the flood of frequency trading and misinformation. 2.
(2) Restoration of the foundation of artistic culture
We will return the viewpoint from the trend of arrangement to the essence of music (structure, interval, and movement) and reaffirm the public nature of art. 3.
3. contribution to the field of education
As a teaching tool that crosses acoustic science, music theory, and critical thinking, it can be applied to music education and STEAM education.
4. contribution to mental and emotional health
Provide society with a healthy "understanding of healing" by avoiding dependence on healing commercials that have no scientific basis.
5. suggestions for the sound environment of public spaces
We will present culturally and scientifically valid perspectives on sound selection in public and welfare facilities.
The main themes addressed by this course
Why accurate performance produces the greatest emotional impact
Scientific and psychological misconceptions about frequency music
Mechanisms of musical healing
Interdisciplinary understanding that links sound, body, and consciousness
Bridging the gap between art and science
