Exhibition Outline

Stig Lindberg (1916-1982) is one of Sweden's most famous artists. Stig Lindberg's designs, which were both functional and beautiful at the same time, have been loved by many people in Sweden and abroad for generations.

In the 1940s, Lindberg gained popularity with his faience, playful patterns and brightly colored vessels, and he also began designing textiles. The "Spisa Ribb" was presented for use in combination with the "Therma" series of heat-resistant tableware, with the idea of taking cooked food directly from the oven to the dining table. The [Bertha] series quickly became a bestseller for the ceramics manufacturer Gustavsberg and was used in many Swedish homes in the 1960s.

This exhibition is comprised of the Lindberg family collection, which includes works from Stig Lindberg's own collection and those collected by his eldest son, Lars Djerholm-Lindberg, who was a pioneer of 20th century design. This is the first large-scale exhibition of its kind to be held in Japan, and it will also introduce aspects of Lindberg's art that have not been introduced before.
