Yushima Tenjin, a famous ume blossom viewing spot since the Edo period
The Yushima Tenjin Ume (Plum) Festival, a poetic tradition in Tokyo that reminds us of the coming of spring, will be held from February 8 (Sun) to March 8 (Sun). The Yushima Tenjin Plum Blossom Festival has been held since the Edo period (1603-1868), and this year marks the 69th year of the festival. 300 plum trees are planted in the precincts of the shrine, including the plum garden that was beautifully reborn through crowdfunding in 2024, and the scent of plum blossoms spreads throughout the area as the spring breeze blows. On Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays during the festival, visitors can experience a variety of traditional Japanese cultural activities such as white plum drums, Japanese dance, and outdoor tea ceremony, and the charity corner where local stores gather attracts even more people.

Limited edition products associated with ume plum blossoms
In conjunction with the Yushima Tenjin Ume Festival, Yushima Kagetsu will sell a limited-edition product called "Umezarame Single Cloth".

Ume-zarame
The "Ume-zarame" is made from Japanese glutinous rice and covered with large ume zarame (plum paste) made from Aichi Prefecture's tamari soy sauce and Kishu plums, which have been boiled to a sweet and spicy flavor. The sweetness of the grains and the sweet and spicy soy sauce, accented by the occasional sourness of the ume plum, makes for an addictive taste that will keep you coming back for more. The texture of the mochi is firm thanks to the baking and deep-frying method, in which glutinous rice is baked and then quickly deep-fried.
The package of a kimono with a plum pattern has a three-dimensional paper belt on the back, a cute design that makes you want to take a picture of it.
The products will be sold at the "Yushima Kagetsu Special Booth" in the Charity Corner held in the precincts of Yushima Tenjin Shrine on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays during the Ume Festival, at Yushima Kagetsu stores, and at the official online store.

About Yushima Kagetsu
Yushima Karinto is a long-established karinto shop founded in 1947, located in Yushima, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo. Their signature product, karinto, was created by accident when a craftsman overcooked the sugar to be mixed with the dough. The beautiful amber-colored "karinto" gained a good reputation, and more than 70 years after its establishment, the store continues to preserve its unchanged flavor in a small store full of humanity in the downtown area.
