Friday Roadshow and Ghibli Exhibition" Saga Exhibition Executive Committee will hold "Friday Roadshow and Ghibli Exhibition" at Saga Prefectural Museum & Art Museum (Saga City, Saga Prefecture) from November 3, 2026 (Tuesday, national holiday) to February 14, 2027 (Sunday). This is the first time that the much-talked-about exhibition, which has been held in many places in Japan, will land in Saga.

Since the airing of "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind" in 1986, we have continued to bring you Studio Ghibli's works. At the same time, many people all over Japan watch it. It is a special experience only available on this program. This exhibition traces the history of "Friday Road Show" and introduces the appeal of Studio Ghibli's works.

At the venue, secrets that have never been told will be revealed, and a space will be created where visitors can dive into the world of the works.

Friday Road Show" has aired Studio Ghibli films over 200 times.

The history of the show has been and continues to be marked by Studio Ghibli's efforts to establish its popularity and to build an unshakeable reputation for its works.

The year 1985 was the year Studio Ghibli "opened its studio" and NTV first broadcast "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind" as a special program. This exhibition takes 1985 as its starting point, looking back carefully on the years when Studio Ghibli's films were released and when they were first broadcast on "Friday Road Show" to explore the appeal of films through the memories and records of each era. By uncovering the social aspects from the Showa to the Heisei era and the 2025 era, we will highlight the timelessness and universality of the films.

Storyboards of almost all the films will be on display! A closer look at the "blueprints" of Ghibli's works!

Storyboards of almost all Studio Ghibli films from "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind" (1984) to "Arya and the Witch" (2020) are on display. A storyboard is a blueprint, so to speak, for a film. It is a frame-by-frame representation of the flow of a scene, which gives visitors an idea of the scene structure, dialogue, and other aspects of the film's production. This is a rare opportunity to see the process of creating a film up close and personal.

Arrietty's World AR

Point (3): Ghibli's Phantom Tower, enveloped in sound and light

A giant "Ghibli's Phantom Lamp Tower" will appear, enveloping you in sound and light! The "Giant Lantern Tower" is a fantastic device that shines a strong light on a film or sculpture and projects an enlarged image onto a curtain or other surface using a lens. The Toyama Glass Art Institute, Toyama Glass Studio, and local artists in the glass town of Toyama were in charge of its production, which was supervised by Studio Ghibli. By illuminating the glass with character motifs, visitors can experience the world of the movie while being enveloped in sound and light.

In this exhibition, a space expressing the "Sea of Decomposition" that appears in the film will be created by Takayuki Takeya, a rare sculptor with many fans in Japan and around the world, and others! The space where king bugs, giant leopards, insect palms, and other creatures created with breathtaking quality await visitors is sure to enchant them.

What is "Friday Road Show"?

The "Friday Road Show" is a movie program broadcast by Nippon Television Network Corporation (NTV) since 1985.

Since the first broadcast of "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind" (directed by Hayao Miyazaki in 1984)* in 1986, more than 200 Studio Ghibli films have been aired, and from 1997 to 2009, an original movie produced by Studio Ghibli (music: Joe Hisaishi) graced the opening of the program. The character "Uncle Friday" was created by Hayao Miyazaki and finished by Yoshifumi Kondo, the director of "Ears to the Sky".
