~The secret of the "wooden ball" attached to the sweater~.
SHOKAY・DGBH(ダブルツリー株式会社)
SHOKAY, a regenerative material brand focusing on "yak" materials (operated by Doubletree, Inc.; Head office: Sapporo, Hokkaido; Representative Director: Tamiko Hayashi), will release "SHOKAY OH! (Head office: Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan; Representative: Tamiko Hayashi) will release "SHOKAY Care Program - Insect Control" on the official SHOKAY website.

A "wooden ball" attached to SHOKAY sweaters
We will reveal the secret behind the "SHOKAY original wooden ball" that is attached to every yak knit sweater.
This small ball, born from camphor tree (camphor tree), embodies the brand's philosophy of protecting the high quality yak fiber from insects and providing long-lasting use. SHOKAY Care Program - Insect Prevention" produced by DGBH, which proposes "Mindful Style × Happy Closet", is now available on the official SHOKAY website.
What is the "wooden ball" attached to SHOKAY sweaters?
What is the wooden ball attached to sweaters? --This is a question we often receive from our customers.
This wooden ball in a small drawstring is made from camphor tree. Camphor, extracted from camphor tree, has an insect repellent effect on clothes, and also contains an aromatic ingredient called "camphor" which has antibacterial properties.
Like cashmere, yak fiber is a favorite of insects. SHOKAY wants you to cherish your yak knit sweaters for a long time, so we attach wooden balls to all our yak knit sweaters.
When the scent of the wooden ball fades, sprinkle a few drops of insect repellent aroma oil such as cypress, lavender, and eucalyptus, and put it back in the drawstring to store it with the sweater. It is also recommended to put aroma-scented solid soap in the closet.
Three basic measures to protect your valuable knitwear from insects
1. keep insects away by ventilating
Insects prefer places with temperatures between 15-25℃ and humidity between 60-80% where air flow is poor. Open closets consciously and ventilate frequently. The first step is to prevent insects from accumulating moisture. 2.
2. store and wash and iron knitwear
Insects feed not only on fibers, but also on sebum, sweat, and dirt. Before changing clothes, be sure to "store-wash" them. Steam ironing of knitwear is also effective in killing eggs and larvae attached to the knitwear by heat. Please use steam ironing as a finishing touch before storing garments for a long period of time. 3.
3) Use natural aromas to create an insect barrier
There is a way to protect your closet with the power of plants instead of relying on chemical insect repellents. In addition to camphorwood, the following herbs and tree aromas are believed to have insect repellent effects.
Natural aromas that can be expected to have insect repellent effects
Camphor tree (camphor tree)
Japanese cypress
Abies sachalinensis
Cinnamon
Lavender
eucalyptus
peppermint
tea tree
Lemongrass
Rosemary
Rituals of Fragrance - A little happiness every time you open your closet
Here are some "scent rituals" to help you cherish your favorite items in your daily life for a long time.
1. baking soda and a small bag of herbs
Baking soda and a few drops of lavender or lemongrass essential oil in a tea bag. Just put it in a pretty cloth bag. This is an easy and reassuring insect repellent that also removes moisture.
2: Scent bags from Kyoto's long-established "Shoeido
Bring the fragrance of a long-established store to your hanger. The natural fragrance adds a subtle "elegant lingering scent" to your clothes. Every time you open your closet, you will feel a moment of quiet happiness.
3. handmade lavender sticks
Lavender sticks are made by weaving lavender from the garden right after it is harvested. At a previous SHOKAY exhibition, we also handed out animal-shaped sachets made by the people of Furano Lavender Township as gifts. The adorable sachets are still in use as little good luck charms in our closets.

About SHOKAY
SHOKAY is the world's first regenerative material brand focusing on "yak" material, a social business founded in 2006 by two female students studying international cooperation at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government with the aim of solving poverty issues among the Tibetan people. As a pioneer of ethical knitwear, their founding story was published in the book "Sekai wo Chan Kaeru Oshigoto" (Kodansha, 2010).
Only 100g of yak hair is harvested from one cow per year, making it a rare material. It is said to retain heat better than cashmere, has excellent breathability and flexibility, and is resistant to pilling. The company produces and sells high-quality knit products and yarns while ensuring traceability. The brand contributes to the achievement of 12 of the 17 UN SDGs.
